Greetings! We are excited to offer our Treasure Lake Egg CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) to our local community. This is new for us, so please be patient as we work out some kinks in our program.
About the birds: We have a variety of laying hens and 1 rooster. All birds are pastured & allowed access to the outdoors during daylight. Our pastured hens are fed Organic, Non-GMO feed in addition to organic fodder grown on our farm & oven-baked [never microwaved] grubs raised in the US. We treat our animals with natural, herbal, medicines and reserve any conventional treatments for serious emergencies only. Any bird in need of conventional medicine, will be removed from the flock temporarily until the illness has resolved and medication has ceased.
A Side Note On “Cage-Free” eggs: Many commercial egg farms keep chickens in small cages their entire lifetime. The hens are not allowed to leave the coop, barely have room to turn around and may never see fresh grass or sunshine.
Commercial eggs that are labeled “cage-free” are usually produced in a warehouse with hundreds of chickens in close quarters, denied access to the outdoors and are treated with antibiotics & chemical de-wormers due to their inhospitable & filthy environments.
At Treasure Lake, we treat our animals with respect & provide them with humane conditions that mimic the bird’s natural environment to the best of our ability.
