peoples connection with nature, gives practical tools for implementation, and greatly increases participants ecological literacy.  It’s a tool for gaining sustainability in ones life and a beginning towards healing the rifts of community and local economy.  The design aspect allows for creativity to be spurred and our imagination to be engaged.  Practically the course framework centers around the 14 chapters that comprise the book “Permaculture: A Designer’s Manual” by Bill Mollison. The PDC, a reflection of this book, was developed by Mollison to spread the knowledge of sensible, ecological design while maintaining the integrity of its multifaceted approach. It also frames our work on the TreeYo EDU project, an online Permaculture Design Course Handbook which allows you to read ahead beforehand and continue to stay engaged afterwards.  This powerful and revolutionary course covers the following chapters:

  • Introduction
  • Concepts and Themes in Design

Permaculture Harvest from the Urban Jungle in Fairfield, Iowa, USA: credit to Brain and Kelly for being rebel urban gardeners full of abundance
  • Methods of Design
  • Pattern Understanding
  • Climatic Factors
  • Trees and their Energy Transactions
  • Water
  • Soils
  • Earthworking and Earth Resources
  • The Humid Tropics
  • Dryland Strategies
  • Humid to Cool Climates
  • Aquaculture
  • The Strategies of an Alternative Global Nation.

The TreeYo curriculum also specifically and extensively covers topics such as Integrated Animal Systems, Natural Building, and Food Fermentation and Culture.  Each PC teacher will brand their courses with a few extra topics and these are the ones we have chosen to highlight in conjunction with material found in the Designer’s Manual and other Bill Mollison publications.  For more information about specifics about the course, please consult the following links below:

INTERACTIVE DESIGN EXERCISES

Our aim as Permaculture trainers is to creatively facilitate a learning process that empowers people in permaculture escolacertdesign through experiential learning and hands-on training. The course follows the Designers Manual by Bill Mollison for the course framework and also includes other teachers’ insights since and before this seminal work.  Design projects will conclude the course as they are the culmination of the knowledge given during these days.  Students deliver the design in a presentation to their teachers and peers for feedback and encouragement.  Upon completion of the course, course participants will receive a Design Certificate. Doug Crouch, the lead facilitator, holds a diploma in Permaculture education from Permaculture.org making it an internationally recognized PDC; an alternative occupational certificate.

We have developed the schedule and program through the Permaculture Teacher Training guidelines as well as our experiences from previous courses. To keep course integrity, we combine this with the international curriculum set by Bill Mollison. Furthermore, we are constantly seeking to make this information attainable for an affordable price while maintaining the highest standards. We cover all chapters of the book and strive to have fun with this learning opportunity all the while facilitating a personal transformation process. The course is formatted for a two-week immersion program, weekend format, or an extended period.

Further, TreeYo occasionally develops and delivers shorter advanced workshops pertaining to specific topics of Permaculture or Introduction courses. From food forests courses to hands on internship, we meet the sites need while having students reskill in sustainability training.
